Programmable logic controllers

THE KEY CONCEPT

PLC stands for programmable logic controller. It is an electronic control system used to automate machinery and processes.

INPUTLOGICOUTPUT

How it works

A PLC is a programmable industrial electronic controller. It reads input signals, executes stored control logic, and updates its outputs.

Inputs can come from sensors, switches, or buttons. Outputs can control equipment such as motors, valves, and indicator lights.

For example, a sensor detects an object on a conveyor. The PLC evaluates its programmed logic and activates an output to stop the conveyor or move the object.

Remember this

Read inputs → execute logic → update outputs.
